Ga-Mamabolo is a village outside a well-known township called Turfloop
where the University of Limpopo situated (previously known as University
of The North during apartheid regime). Ga-Mamabolo is under tribal
authority of the Mamabolo clan which originated from Bokgalaka
Rhodesia (renamed Zimbabwe).
The clan moved from Bokgalaka under the leadership of Selowana, whom
was praised as “Seolana sa Mmataladi se gopa banna matolo”. The
village is predominately rural and consist of Sepedi speaking people
including other cultures but less than 20% cultural diversity.
The Ga-Mamabolo village has an estimated population of 43 000 with
more than 50 sub-villages within the community (Thabakgone, Mentz,
Spitzkop, Mamphaka, Thune, Monyoaneng & others.) who are potential
stakeholders on the value chain of local economy of the village.
The group of unemployed youth of Ga-Mamabolo discovered that during
December (festive season) from history of this village there are no single
activities which entertain the community and bring people together
especially during such time when everyone returns home for purpose of
holidays
This group of ambitious youth organised themselves to establish GAE GA-
MAMABOLO MUSIC FESTIVAL which is a multifaceted entertainment
programme which features different activities from music festival, fashion
show, activations, workshop, social market and brand awareness. The
project will take place for 3 days from 23 December until 26 December
2019 at Monyoaneng Stadium (Ga-Mamabolo)
